Melodies In Moving Water is an ongoing project to record and archive the orchestral journey along the River Derwent.

The project is focused on capturing three main areas of sound. Firstly, the natural orchestral qualities of the River and other surrounding bodies of water, from the tumultuous roar of the weirs to the delicate whispers of the backwater pools.

Secondly, to record the acoustic ecology of the river, with key focus of certain high interest plants and wildlife, for example, the Red Signal and White-clawed Crayfish and the Atlantic Salmon.

Finally, an investigation into the sounds of the several hydroelectric plants along the Derwent looking into there contribution to the surrounding area.
